Labor Day at the Lake

Labor Day was nice and relaxing. We went up to the lake house at after church on Sunday and just our little family was there from Monday afternoon until we went home on Tuesday afternoon. Pixie decided to take 2-2 1/2 hour naps on Monday and went to bed and stayed asleep for a long time! Maybe it was all the fresh air. After Pixie went to sleep, Scott and I left the door open and had a campfire. It was nice.

Scott won't let me post pictures of the lake house on here until Grandma Maridee comes out and sees it for herself. So, I had to crop the pictures. This is the view from our back yard. It's on an inlet of the lake and there is as preservation across the way.

Aww...look at my cabbage patch baby!

Nova had tons of fun exploring. This is here down by the waterfront.

I hadn't showered the whole time we were there. Icky. This is my idea of camping!

A Rainy Day

Today is a rainy day. Only in Missouri is Labor Day the high of 95 degrees, then two days later it's 58 degrees at 3:30pm.
I have always loved rainy days. In fact, when I was a kid I used to misinterpret the meaning of the saying "put away for a rainy day". As you know, it means to put money away for a time when you need it. I thought you put it away until a literal rainy day in which you had to play in the house and wanted to do something special, like order pizza and watch movies. Although, we were allowed to go out and play in the rain while our friends had to stay inside or on their porches.
Rainy days were fun days. My Mom would bake cookies, we would play board games, and sometimes I would gather up every stuffed animal I owned and snuggle with them on the couch with a blanket...and probably watch Pete's Dragon.
Thunderstorms were especially special. My Dad would take me out on the front porch and we would sit there in awe of the awesome power of God.
To this day, rainy days make me happy. I would rather have rain the entire winter instead of snow. Except maybe a couple of weeks before Christmas.
I awoke this morning with a little bit nausea. Pixie had a 24 hour stomach virus last week that has been going around and I was hoping I didn't have it too. I feel okay, but Pixie has been really whiny today and hasn't been napping well. Possibly because she's teething. Then, I realized I couldn't find my diaper bag which has my wallet in it and realized that I probably left it up at Big Lake where we went for the holiday. The bad thing is, I am sure I had it in the car..which means that maybe Scott took it out to pack the car and left it outside. We'll have to go back tonight or tomorrow to retrieve it. I really hope it isn't stolen or ruined. I have only been using it for about a week and it's SO cute.
Thank goodness today is a rainy day. I might have been in a really rotten mood.

How Cool..

After my last post, I found out that my own sister started up a WAHM (work at home mom) business website making cloth diapers and everything that goes with them. Amy is so crafty. She's just starting out, so there is a lot more to come on her website. I know she's doing a few custom projects for a few customers right now. I know where I'm getting my supplies from now. Take a look!

Oh the genius of Bumgenius!

When I found out I was pregnant, I decided I wanted to look into cloth diapers. That is, once I found out that you don't have to do the prefolds and pins! Besides the saving money factor (you can also reuse these on multiple children), I had read some things on disposables and I don't really like how there is a bunch of chemicals holed up next to my baby's bummy. Also, it just makes me sick thinking that they are all sitting there "not" rotting in a landfill. They do sell those more expensive natural disposables, but they only break down if you put them in your own compost. The landfills are treated too much for any of that to break down I hear.
I researched all different kinds of brands and came to settle on bumgenius.
You use a dry pail, no rinsing or dunking.
We hit it at the right time. The 2.0 one size pocket diapers (from 8-35lbs) were just going out and the 3.0 was coming out with only minor changes. Plus, we found a place in town that was closing them out for $5 off a piece. So, we bought about 18 of them. I wasn't worried. If I didn't like them I would just sell them on Ebay..they were going for just as much or more than I bought them for anyway.

I had heard that with the 2.0 insert it fit best when the baby was at least 12 lbs. So, since newborns have many bowel movements a day, we decided to use disposables until she was around that weight. Flash forward to now and she's about 14 lbs and I'm trying to use up the last of my size 1 disposables before she grows again. Not all size ones are the same, she can only fit into a few now. I swear the pampers 1s are like the parent's choice 2s.
Anyway, I put one of my bumgenius diapers on her last night. I used the bulky folded over insert (the new ones come with a newborn insert for a trimmer fit) and thought I'd wait and see. Since I just haul Pixie into bed with me when she wakes up in her crib at night, I was risking getting wet upon. This morning I took her to be changed...at first I thought she didn't wet much and was a bit worried when I felt the inside of the diaper, but then I reached in to get the microfiber insert out and it was soaked! Hooray! A whole 12 hours at night!! Now when she's older I'll probably have to stick a doubler in there too, but I love, love , LOVE Bumgenius! Plus, the come in cute colors too. :)

Semi-Sitting and Baby Shorts

Pixie has been trying to sit up. She can do what I call "The Gorilla".
We also realized that she now knows her name. Which, of course, is not really Pixie.
"It looks like she's leaning"

Obviously, Nova misses the limelight.

I just love baby shorts! I found a couple of bags of clothes in the basement that I got a while ago and forgot about. So I went through the clothes she can wear and am getting rid of the ones I don't care for that people gave me.

Memories

Memories!
Here are the directions:

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you know me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments.

Trails West

Yesterday Sam went with us to an annual festival in Saint Joseph called "Trails West". It's really a down home country event, but I really wanted kettle corn! The venue was Kellie Pickler, so I didn't care about staying for that. I guess in 2002 they had Air Supply..I would have gone to that!
We took the stroller and put Pixie directly into it for the first time, instead of putting her car seat into it. She LOVED it! She's starting to try to sit up, so she did well in it and liked looking at all the hustle and bustle. She only cried for a minute when we sat down and she was getting tired, then she fell asleep when we started walking and slept through all the loud noises.
I was impressed with the amount of trash cans that were there. They had a cardboard trash every few yards and they changed them often. They also had a changing/nursing tent with diapers provided! I didn't have to use it, but it was really nice that it was there.
We saw a van that was being painted with pictures by Vincent Van Gogh. They tagged it "Look at that van gogh". :) I forgot to get a picture of it, but it's going to be a delivery van around town and maybe I'll be able to catch it again.

This was at the eating area. They were selling beer and giving the proceeds to kids charities. We thought that was kinda funny.
My baby and me!

I think she looked so cute in this hat. Look at those baby blues!

So adorable. I love this picture.

Together 3 years, married for 2, had a baby, and we are still lovey.
